The Story
Four Humours is inspired by the doctors of old, who believed that every ailment—and every cure—was a matter of correcting purity and balance within the human body.
The four humours represented elements, qualities, and temperaments, which need to be purified and balanced to achieve the ideal state of being. A healthy constitution: sound mind, high spirits, and strong physique, come from the correct amount of “four humours” from which we all are made.
Likewise, Four Humours Distilling & Rickhouse is a meditation on balance and purity: the purest ingredients in exacting ratios, blended with masterful precision and aged to pour in their finest hour. There is no rush; take a seat by the barrels. All good things must take due time, and we’ve readied the perfect space to imbibe.
Any good barkeep or doctor must listen, and sense which elements each visitor needs—and that is how we aim to please.
A sprig of this, a waft of that, a pulled-up root to bridge the gap; we’re all a mix of mixed-up things, the elements that flow through all that breathes.
Meet the Founders
JONATHAN ANOLIK
Jonathan Anolik is a born-and-raised Philadelphian with a passion for Philly sports, food and drink. He and his father share more than a history of working in the family medical practice; they also share a passion for great whiskey and the nuances in both its production and flavor.
As manager of a local real estate investment company, Jonathan brings a strong understanding of the Philadelphia marketplace. And as a whiskey enthusiast, he brings an appetite and appreciation for quality spirits to Four Humours Distilling.
DR. ROBERT ANOLIK
Dr. Robert Anolik, affectionately known as “Dr. Bob” to his patients, has been practicing medicine for over 35 years. He is now focusing his attention on another type of life: aqua vitae — Latin for “the water of life,” otherwise known as distilled alcohol.
Dr. Bob brings to Four Humours Distilling the same passion he has demonstrated in his medical career for over 3 decades. He is excited to produce locally finished whiskies that Philadelphians are proud to call their own.
ROBERT CASSELL - Master Distiller
Some people are born to create music, others to climb the tallest mountains. Rob was born to distill high quality spirits. Trained at Heriot Watt International Centre for Brewing and Distilling in Scotland, Rob has been perfecting his craft ever since. He has been awarded over 20 international gold medals for his spirits. Rob has served on The Distilled Spirits Council of America, Regional Advisory Panel for the PLCB, on the Innovation Sub Committee for the American Society of Brewing Chemist. The blend of experience, passion and skill that Rob brings to Four Humours will enable us to create whiskey of the highest standard.
